Yours to be Had: 2 Free Nights at the Novotel Ha Long Bay

Photos courtesy of Novotel Ha Long Bay

While my readers are few and far between -- and rightfully so for someone who basically never posts -- I'd like to reward those who happen upon my site (you) with a little treat: a 2-Night Stay at the Novotel Ha Long Bay.

Overlooking the bay, the Novotel is perfect for those who want a quick escape out of Hanoi or travelers coming through Vietnam with a little time on their hands.

Here are the rules (which are very loose):Leave a comment to this post detailing your worthiness to receive said voucher and an email I can contact you at. For those traveling from afar, please let me know where you're from and other details that might be of interest. For those traveling from less distant lands, indulge me on your travails and much deserved R&R.

The voucher is good for 2 persons and expires December 31st 2009.

My dad came to America in 1981. I was born in 1982. In my early years, I remember visiting my dad at La Quinta Inn, where he worked as a janitor. Our house was decorated in La Quinta Inn rejects.

I had little concept of the hardships my parents experienced in order to stop cleaning cheap hotel rooms and graduate from college.

All of a sudden, I've turned around, and not only have my parents graduated from college, but built their own business, which they now manage from afar.

Dad moves back and forth, from his business in Texas, to Vietnam, on a three month rotating basis.

To this day, the nicest hotel he's ever stayed at, is a La Quinta Inn. While I can't say I blame him, (after all, such thriftiness is what allowed him to rise above his circumstances!), I would like for him to experience a stay at a place as incredible as the Novotel.

You can email me at clam (at) saxonattorneys.com if they've won. Regardless of who's selected, I've enjoyed your blog immensely!

My name's Matt Limmer. I check your blog about ounce a fortnight. I want to go to Vietnam at the end of this year or early next. I read Villa Incognito and decided I wanted to find some paradise like that. I really need a holiday. I just finished 4 years of intense studying, and am not privileged enough to have money to travel. I have a job now working for a publishing company designing magazines. So the savings are starting to add up. I was born in New Zealand and have visited a few times. But that's about as far as my world experience goes, unfortunately. I live in sunny Brisbane, Australia, so it is quite cheap for me to get to vietnam. I plan to ride a push bike from Da Nang to Hanoi, which I know will be quite hard work. Then I want to head West, with no plans. It would be great to catch while I'm over there also!

Thanks for the posts!

I've been tracking your blog for a couple of months now, having been referred to your site by Antidote to Burnout. My interest in checking out expat blogs is that I'm Vietnamese-American (but born in Saigon and left for US at 2 years old and now 36) and just recently became a statistic in US unemployment rate. Now I have the opportunity to return to Vietnam in October, and stay for at least a few months, to immerse myself in the culture and life there. I've been to Saigon twice before, but they were short stays. I've always wanted to go to Ha Long Bay. The furthest I've ever gone out of Saigon was to Nha Trang. But from what I told, Ha Long Bay is an experience all its own.

Well, regardless whether I'm the lucky winner, I'd love to network with expats in Saigon when I arrive and see if there are any opportunities to do good work there. My background is in nonprofit/foundation management. Oh, my email is classyware@gmail.com

So why is a self proclaimed lazy blogger passing these on? 2 free nights in Ha Long city - sounds great if you never leave the Novotel.

I have no tale of woe nor funny story. I do however live in Vietnam and will be taking the family on a holiday to the north in October. The current plan is to do HN, Sapa and Cat Ba, but will obviously ditch Cat Ba for Ha Long should you be foolish enough to pass them on to me. Plus as we both live in Saigon, I could actually thank you personally, plus bore you with photos of what Ha Long looks like in the autumn.

How unworthy is that?

Three days ago I bought a flight to Ho Chi Minh City from my place of residence and birth, Los Angeles. This past year, I've had a romanticized idea of visiting Vietnam to lodge in Colonial French Architecture, drift among the majestic islets of Ha Long Bay, traverse the ranges of Sapa Mountain, relax on the beaches of Hoi An and attain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of Vietnam visiting the Monuments of Hue. Young Architects naturally have a great appreciation and affinity for the elegant and cultivated things in life, but rarely have the budget to make such an existence a reality. I've worked tirelessly for the past few years and have had to work doubly hard before and after a vacation to compensate for time lost. A relaxing, edifying and inspiring vacation would redress all the late nights designing the dreams of my clients. To replace the din of the city highway with the hum of the bay, to stay in a beautiful room in such a captivating locale would be a true treat.

interesting...just personally not really into the idea of worthiness proof, sound like a great deal of giving...doesn't speak well for a generous heart. Suggestion: just to the first commenter would do. No offense pls.

(Actually, just kidding. Some invisible force prevents me from going more than a few kms away from HCMC.)
